Initially UserA was granted ‘full access’ to a finance mailbox. This is set up for other users who aren’t having any problems.

UserA however got the following error message whenever she tried to change the ‘from’ field to finance :. Please make sure you’re sending on behalf of the correct sender As you can see, it was trying to send on behalf of finance , which it didn’t have permission to do.

I enabled this permission and now emails sent ‘from: finance ‘ come through as ‘on behalf of finance ‘. The user has ‘send as’ access, ‘full access’ and ‘send on behalf’ access. A colleague also has all 3 permissions enabled and mail he sends ‘from: finance ‘ is actually sent AS.

I hope you’ve followed me so far. I’m just wondering if there’s a setting in outlook somewhere that has told the ‘from’ field to act as ‘send on behalf’.

I imagine there are users out there who are granted both, ‘send on behalf’ and ‘send as’ permissions to an account and may wish to switch between them on occasion I have a very similar setup, although we’re still using Outlook , but everything else is the same.

Just did a test here and all I had to do was right click on my IT mailbox in EMC, select “manage full access permission” and add myself.

Then, I already have the mailbox added in my Outlook as an additional mailbox not sure if this is required. When I click on “new” to write a new e-mail, I have to go to the “options” tab and select “show from. I successfully sent it.

I checked the “send as” permission and my account is not listed. You do not need “send as” permission if you have “full access. Not sure if that helps. If it’s not working as intended, I might, at this point, recreate both mailboxes.

On the Exchange Server Mailbox Menu, right click the user that you want to be able to “send as” and grant them access. Adam, that article is related to exchange I mentioned at the bottom that I’m using exchange A-Spice, I’m not sure that I’m understanding you here.

UserA needs to be able to send as Finance. If I right click the user that I want to be able to “send as” and grant access then I would end up giving finance the ability to send as UserA. Finance ‘s manage send as permission has already been set, but for whatever reason, when I change the ‘from’ field, it sends on behalf instead of sending as. When selecting send on behalf of, or send as, do you not just select it from the “from field” of the email?

Prehaps you will only have rights to do one of the 2, maybe try removing the send on behalf of permission, but keep the send as permission and try that? Do you have access to the exchange management console? I think the from field will only ‘send as’ if the send as permission is set in exchange management console on the users mailbox. Billy, there’s no option to select between ‘send as’ or ‘send on behalf’. If only ‘send as’ permissions are granted then I get the “You can’t send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so.

If both are enabled then it will send on behalf. I have followed the guide Jacob. It applies to Exchange but I gave it a go anyway. No luck. What I’m trying to achieve, I’ve done dozens of times. Granting someone access to a 2nd mailbox is simple enough, but for whatever reason, this one user’s account INSISTS on sending on behalf, instead of sending as. I have removed all permissions, re-added just ‘send as’ – didn’t work. I removed the profile entirely from outlook and re-added it from scratch..

If I grant ‘send on behalf of’ then it works completely fine Send on behalf isn’t good enough. I escalated this to my manager just to let the user know that we’re taking it seriously, I wrote a quite handover for him too which explains everything a bit better. We get those error messages from time to time when a user is just sending an email. We’ve narrowed out issue down to an issue with cached email addresses. Once we emptied the auto complete list, we would stop getting those messages. If this wasn’t figured out yet, sometimes this can be caused when users are granted both “Send On Behalf” and “Send As” permissions.

Make sure to allow for replication time between the removal and addition of the permissions. Also, that error can be caused by a corrupt cached address list. Emptying the auto-complete list like TanK said will sometimes work as well. Had the same problem here after I gave UserA permissions to send as Finance , then removed it, then re-added it again.

I deleted Finance from the From box. I started typing the Finance in a new email and deleted the auto complete entry as well. Next I started a new email and selected Finance from the global address book and it worked ok. If you go to the mailbox on your exchange server, right click on the mailbox and look for “Send as permissions”, you can select the account their that you want to be able to send as, rather than on behalf of.

I experienced the same issue and discovered that it was due to the user we were trying to “send as” being hidden from the exchange address lists bottom of the general tab in mailbox properties. When they were no longer hidden, outlook stopped trying to send it “on behalf of”. I need to breathe new life into this because it looks like OP gave up on trying to respond. I had this issue with another user in the past and the local cache clearing worked, but the local cache little X had to be cleared EVERY time she needed to efax, unacceptable.

So, now hopefully that breathes some insight. This crops up every few months and the cause seems to be different each time. The most reliable fix I’ve found:.

In my own Outlook box I have added several email accounts from Exchange to which I have full access permission but every time I would send, it would still send on behalf. I realized that if I created a new pop account, I set the incoming server to anything since we are not going to use that and made sure the outgoing is set to the exchange server. I then modified the Send and Receive group on this newly created account to only send and not receive.

Within Outlook in my case in the From box, the accounts are on the top and the aliases are the bottom. If you use an alias it will send on behalf as it’s still using your main exchange account that you are sending from. If you use the pop account it will send as perfectly. Then each time you send an email, Outlook will ask whether you want it to go “as” or “on behalf of”.

This ended up solving my problem. Almost any other permission you set is instant, but this one takes 2 hours don’t know why, the logic, whatever but once I started setting the Send As! Yep, that is one permission that has always been that way in Exchange for whatever reason. Over half our clients are in Office , and it seems to be even worse with Exchange Online. For the record, I’ve tried rebooting before to speed up the process, it does not seem to make a difference.

I believe it has something more to do with Exchange services or AD and the way it propagates this particular permission. Since Google kept taking me here for this issue, I figure someone else might come here looking for the answer that I couldn’t find.
