As you have already seen in previous replies here you really need to upgrade to VMware Fusion version 8 to gain compatibility with El Capitan.

Once you have installed the new upgraded version you should be able to run it and access your existing virtual images. Is there any way through which i can upgrade the existing VMware to version 8 or can you suggest me a way to download this version which is compatable with El Capitan. I don’t believe there is an upgrade from 6 to 8 so you would have to purchase the latest version from VMWare.

While they talking about going from v6 to v7 and then to v8, I feel you could go from v6 to v8 directly. Basically you buy the upgrade, download it, install it, run it and it will let you use existing VMs. The one possible catch is that you are supposed to have shutdown all VMs before upgrading.

Since you cannot run v6 in El Capitan you may have a problem if you left some VMs ‘paused’ rather than shutdown. Jun 20, AM in response to bronxpod In response to bronxpod.
