Cannot uninstall microsoft office 2010 professional plus free download.Uninstall Office from a PC

I have a product key for Office Pro Plus, however, I accidentally installed the version. When I realised this, I proceeded to download uninstlal version. Only problem is, Office is set as default for opening all office files. I cannot seem to change this in settings. After doing so, an error came up and the uninstall cancelled.
